Born to a Kashmiri Pundit family, he left Srinagar for Mumbai to follow his dreams at a young age of 19. He was driven by his passion for cinema and his tremendous journey across two decades in the Indian Entertainment Industry speaks for it.
Rahul started his career as a model when he won the Face of the Year - India award in 1998. His modeling career spanned across more than 200 shows where he worked with some of the top designers like JJ Vallaya, Manish Malhotra and Vikram Phadnis to name a few.
Popular and photogenic he was the most sought after face that launched brands like Breeze Soap, Colgate, Newport Jeans, Ponds Deo, Sprite, Lux, Tata Tea etc.
He became the golden boy of television when he played the protagonist Sameer in the mega hit television serial Heena, which aired for five years and touched the highest ever TRP 17.1 in Indian television history and has stayed unbeatable till date.
Thereafter he went on to play the role of lord Krishna in the critically acclaimed show Draupadi and followed by Cincinnati bablaboo the most talked about big budget mall comedy sitcom on Star Plus.
While his acting career soared, Rahul forayed into production with his company Filmtonic Entertainment
in 2007 and produced some award winning serials including Meri Doli Tere Angana, Chu Kar Mere Man ko
and Tum Dena Saath Mera.
Rahul got his first break in Yeh Mohabbat Hai with the top Bollywood director Umesh Mehra under the banner of Eagle Films. Soon he was seen in Nitin Manmohan’s Nayee Padosan where he did a double role and was critically acclaimed for portraying a South Indian character and this was followed by the film Ghaav with Seema Biswas and Om puri.
He was applauded for his work in the Internationally acclaimed film Ugly by maverick director Anurag Kashyap. In Daas Dev Rahul played the iconic character of Devdaas with Richa Chadha as Paro and Aditi Rao Haidari as Chandramukhi directed by multiple National Award winner Sudhir Mishra. Over the years he has been known for his remarkable performances in Abhishek Kapoor’s Fitoor opposite super star Katrina Kaif and Jai Gangaajal with Priyanka Chopra directed by multiple National Award winner Prakash Jha. He is the only actor who has done a lead role in a Chinese film True Heroes which was extensively shot in Beijing, Sanya and Shanghai
Rahul has won multiple international awards for his lead role in the Indo- Canadian film Union Leader where he played the title role and the film got selected in many major film festivals around the world.
This was followed Section 375 with Richa Chaddha and Akshaye Khanna, Chakki by Satish Munda and Dobaara opposite Tapsi Pannu directed by Anurag Kashyap.
His films Firdaws by Mayur Puri and Man Naked by Sanjeev Kaul have won more than 50 awards in International Film Festivals around the world including Cannes, Toronto, USA, Korea to name a few.
He is the first Kashmiri actor to walk the red carpet at the most prestigious Cannes Film Festival twice. First for his movie Ugly which was selected in the directors fortnight category and won awards at Busan and Locarno Film Festivals to name a few. And now in 2023 for Kennedy.

But this one works every otherwise it made me cry , it made me wonder , it kept me stressed out he does that anyway but, I really really enjoyed the film. Enjoy is very difficult word to use for the films that are sometimes gets so dark but it’s a fascinating film.”
